217mph McLaren P1 tested to extremes in Nevada and Arizona

McLaren have been putting their P1 supercar through its paces in the Arctic, but the latest exercises involved heat. They took the car to California – specifically Nevada and Arizona. The P1 is due for release in a few weeks time and putting it through some extreme heat at up to 116f/52c was the ultimate endurance test.

McLaren will be delivering some of the limited edition 375 run in the coming weeks and the torture testing in the hottest conditions means they can tweak some settings before delivery. The P1 delivers 727 horsepower through its 3.8 twin turbocharged engine, and another 176 electric horse power via a rear mounted generator for a total of 903 bhp.

The car has a top speed of 217 mph and the air force at that speed will keep the engine cool. The issue can be when moving very slowly through traffic, especially in warm conditions.

The company also used the America tests to take some amazing pictures of the car, placing a Carbon Black version of the car for instance into Death Valley. The P1 is part of McLaren's 50 Year Anniversary celebrations.

Kitguru says: A monster car created in very limited edition numbers.
