Panasonic release new Lumix DMC-GX7 mirrorless camera

Panasonic just revealed their latest retro look mirrorless interchangeable lens camera – the Lumix DMC GX7.

The camera features a redesigned Live MOS sensor which exhibits detail and colour saturation improvements. The company have built in WiFi and NFC capabilities and it features a new body image stabilisation system. A silent shooting mode has been added for those sneaky last minute photographs.

Panasonic have added a new Live ViewFinder and rear display panel, both of which can tilt. The electronic viewfinder can move 90 degrees, allowing the user to look directly down into the 2.76 million dot resolution system. The company claim that it has 100 percent colour reproduction and the built in sensor can turn the LVF on and off depending on how it is being used. It will auto switch the displayed image between the rear display as well.

The rear display is a 1.04 million dot touch panel which can tilt up and down to raise the camera up or down low, for some cool looking photographs. Additionally Panasonic have added an adjustment system so the touch screen won't be accidentally toggled if you are ham fisted.

The sensor is a 16 megapixel Live MOS sensor with improved colour and sensitivity (up to 25,600), while producing lower noise levels than the previous model. The camera also is equipped with a 1/8000 shutter speed to help nail those fast action shots.

It uses a contrast autofocus system and the camera is capable of a digital signal exchange between camera and lens of 240 frames per second. There is a picture in picture display for precision focusing. Panasonic are trying to reduce camera shake problems by building image stabilisation into the camera body. Full speed is around the five frames per second rate. Remote shooting is possible with the new Panasonic Image Application for Android and iOS devices.

Creative options are covered, with Creative Panorama, Stop Motion and Time Lapse. There are 22 filter effects including sepia and silky or rough monochrome. Clear Retouch is included to allow the end user to remove unwanted parts of the image after the shot has been taken.

The DMC-GX7 can also handle full high definition video at up to 60 frames per second, with stereo microphones handling audio capture. The camera can use AutoFocus, Touch AF and Tracking AF during video recording.

The US price is set at $999.99 and lens kit options will be available.
