Apple may be making all the headlines with their upcoming iWatch release but the latest Emopulse Smile model is available now for pre-order.
This is no mere smartwatch however, as this product will be an entertainment and gaming hub as well as a social networking and news feed system.
This twin display watch is wrapped around the wrist and is worn like a bracelet. The working prototypes are said to be using flexible displays and has a full colour OLED readout. The top screen auto activates as the arm is raised and the lower screen switches on when it is pointed upwards when the wrist is twisted.
Both displays are housed inside an aluminum enclosure and the glass is waterproof and shock resistant. The company are waiting on a good supply of flexible screens before the product was released.
The Smile smartwatch is said to run a custom build of the Linux AI operating system. There are biosensors embedded in the device to help gather info about the wearer.
The device is powered by the OMAP 5 processor from Texas Instruments which is said to be able to cope with gaming on the smallish screens. There will be 2GB of system memory in the watch and either 128GB or 256GB of Solid State storage onboard. There will also be a nano SIM card slot which means the smartwatch should be able to act as a phone. Bluetooth and USB 3.0 support is also included for connecting to other products.
The company are including three integrated cameras and three microphones. A face tracking webcam is installed at the top of the main display for web chatting. There is also a 12 megapixel camera that can record 1080p video. Another camera can operate like a scanner and a reader – it can display information from bar codes and QR codes on the screen.
Speech recognition will be included, with an avatar assistant offering advise and search support.
The watch is powered by a 2,500 mAH battery which they say should ensure life across two days between charges, or up to a week in power saving mode.
Emopulse have launched an Indiegogo crowd funding campaign with two versions of the watch available for preorder. For $480 you can get the 128GB model with black and blue accenting – in four different sizes and in a left and right hand orientation. The 256GB model is $550 and the campaign will run until July 11.
You can join in the pledging, over here. More information on the smartwatch is available over here.
Kitguru says: The watch of the future? It certainly seems like Apple have their hands full matching this one.
I call BS. BOTH of the products that this company had up on Indiegogo have now been taken down which goes with my initial reaction to this product. Indiegogo clearly must have also seen through the facade that had been created.
If Samsung says that curved/flexible screens aren’t yet ready for prime time… where is this company supposedly sourcing its screens… let alone having it house a 2500 Battery, 3 cameras, 2 screens… and that’s not all… it also:
[from their website… I really thought I was reading an Onion column]
“can also read your mood. It will know if you’re stressed out or relaxing. It can monitor your diet and your health. It will inform you when you should get up and move or take a rest, … It can control how awake you are as well as your sleep stages and your dream time….”
Seriously?
I REALLY believe that this company is a shell that has no product but is one that saw an opportunity to jump on the SmartWatch phenomenon and take advantage of Indiegogo’s legal language that says
“This campaign will receive all funds raised even if it does not reach its goal.”
The bottom line: If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.
