Computex kicks off in torrential rain, promises cloud focus

Ahoy Techgeeks!! Computex 2013 has launched in Taipei, Taiwan and when we say ‘launch', we mean in the nautical sense – in to a huge body of water. KitGuru dons water wings and a snorkel to see what's what in Formosa.

Each year in June you can be sure of two things, one: Computex 2013 will be held in Taipei, Taiwan, and two: It will rain at the event.

Fortunately this year the rain was quick to disperse on this first day and had little impact besides wetting those unprepared souls who believed it could be otherwise (two wheels is the only way to get around Taipei quickly and my ability to bend a motor scooter to my will was severely tested).

In essence, this is the 33rd anniversary of COMPUTEX TAIPEI. It started way back in 1981, and has evolved to define the host nation of Taiwan as the pinnacle of technology from which almost all information and communications technology’ key players, buyers and media representatives shape the future.

As the largest ICT exhibition in Asia, organized by the Taipei Computer Association (TCA) and the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), COMPUTEX TAIPEI is also the driving force of Taiwan's ICT industry, generating business opportunities over US$23 billion in total production value.

The event has pledged to focus on Cloud Technology [Ho Ho Ho – Ed] and Smart Mobility/Touch enabled applications as a priority, with all the usual suspects making an appearance such as Acer, ASUS, ADATA, Advantech, Asrock, Compal, Delta, Gigabyte, MiTAC, MSI and Transcend, as well as foreign big brand names such as Intel, Microsoft, AMD, Corning, Ford, Broadcom, NVIDIA, WD and Marvell.
