If you're a Raspberry Pi user and you've been hankering to use the mini-PC to make something that'll snap pictures, then you're in luck, as the module to give it photographic capabilities, has now gone on sale via official Pi suppliers: RS Components and Element14.
You'll have to be fast if you want one however, as at the time of writing it looks like RS might be already out of stock. Each camera module costs £17, mirroring the affordable price of the original Pi.
But what do you get for your money? A five megapixel sensor hooked up to a fixed focus lens. As well as pretty big stills, it can also output video at a variety of resolution, going from 640×480 all the way up to 1080p. If weight is a consideration, don't fret, as the camera module comes in at just 3g, measuring 2.5 x 2.0 x 0.9 centimetres.
The Pi foundation also released a breakdown video, to show you exactly what you get for your money and how it works. [yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GImeVqHQzsE']
KitGuru Says: What applications have you guys used with your Pi? If you haven't got your hands on one but are thinking about it, considering getting my pal Gareth's user guide, it's official and everything. [Cheers TechCrunch]
