While the Oculus Rift is being hailed by many as the future of gaming, opening up new avenues of future development, one user has given it a chance to reinvigorate the past as well by hooking it up to a Virtuaboy emulator; and by all accounts, it works really well.
Cymatic is the Youtube user behind it (thanks PCGamesN) and he used a modified version of the VBjin emulator to get the Virtuaboy games to display correctly on his Rift. As you can see from the below video, he thoroughly enjoyed using it. [yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qqH_L8H-7s&t=3m10s']
According to his run down, the 3D works well and the visuals are crisp. It fills the screen too – which the Virtuaboy never did. Cymatic had so much fun he apparently spent over three hours playing a few of the different titles, which could be the first time someone's spent that long inside a headset playing Virtuaboy games. In the past, with the original hardware, there was no way that would have worked – the headache would have been too intense.
KitGuru Says: Nice to see some other ways of enjoying the Oculus Rift and especially with games that not many people have played because they just weren't comfortable. Any of you guys owned the original Virtuaboy back in the day?
