Huawei confirms they are working on Samsung Galaxy Note II competitor

Huawei's Senior Vice President Yu Chengdong has confirmed that the Chinese company is indeed working on a competitor to Samsung's Galaxy Note II. The Samsung rival was announced in August and has already sold 5 million units.

Chengdong went as far to say that interested customers should wait for Huawei's offering as it will be faster and cheaper than Samsung's offering. He has confirmed that such a device is in the works and will be slimmer than the Note II and also have a better display, battery life and grip. In the past there have been rumours of a device called the Ascend Mate that is said to include a 6.1 inch 1080p display, a 1.8 GHz quad-core processor and 2 GB of memory.

There was no mention of announcement dates but it is fairly likely that an announcement for this device will take place during the Consumer Electronics Show in January.

KitGuru says: Expect the ‘phablet' market to get a whole lot more interesting in the coming months.
