Android to dominate in US through 2016, report says

Google's Android operating system is growing and it has accounted for a very high percentage of the mobile market share this year. According to a report, they will hold strong in top position for at least another four years.

We see a lot of debate about mobile operating systems on our Facebook page and it is clear that the majority of people are in favour of Android. The International Data Corporation (IDC) report shows that this view is mirrored in America.

Kevin Restivo, one of IDC's research analysts has said “Sluggish economic conditions worldwide have cast a pall over the mobile phone market this year. However, the fourth quarter will be relatively bright due in part to sales of high-profile smartphones, such as the iPhone 5 and Samsung’s Galaxy S3, in addition to lower cost Android-powered smartphones shipped to China and other high-growth emerging markets.”

The only problem with Android partners is that they are competing against a wealth of other companies selling similar products. Apple's iOS is not offered to other companies, so Apple hold all of the sales. The report suggests that Apple will continue to hold second place. IDC add that their pricing is high, so it will limit the market share as a wide audience simply can't afford their products.

IDC said “In order to maintain current growth rates, Apple will need to examine the possibility of offering less expensive models, similar to its iPod line.”

Android took 68.3 percent, Apple took 18.8 percent with RIM's Blackberry and Microsoft's Windows Phone taking 4.7 percent and 2.6 percent respectively.
