ADATA launches wireless access to SD cards and more

As the number of devices which include memory sticks, of one form or another, increase across the planet – we're all faced with the issue of ‘How do we move the data to the data processing device?'.  With the launch of its DashDrive Air AV200, ADATA believes it has a solution that we'll find appealing. KitGuru fires up the router to check.

We're familiar with the idea of a card reader. Whether you use a small bay on the front of your PC to mount a one of these useful devices or use an external one, you're still faced with one fundamental problem.

The data is going to be ingested onto the PC with the card reader.

ADATA has been looking at this problem and, it hopes, has provided a solution with the DashDrive Air AV200. This tiny unit has all of the memory card slots that you would hope to find, but no wires attached. Instead, in sits on a network – like a NAS box with no fixed drives.

In fact, the electronics installed in the DashDrive Air AV200 mean that it can create a mini-network of its own – supporting up to 5 devices.

It's an agnostic little device as well – not bothered about your religious beliefs – so you can attached with Windows, OS X, iOS and Android.

For us, the most interesting part of the product is the price. It's likely to be just over £40 in the UK – which considering its feature set is quite cool.

Measuring 60 x 50 x 25mm, the ADATA DashDrive Air AV200 provides 802.11 b/g/n wireless networking for up to 5 devices. Nice.

KitGuru says: Ahead of testing, we can't comment on what it would be like to try and move gigabytes of video data around your house using a small wireless hub like this, but the idea that there could be a ‘central point' for everyone in the house to grab shots off their cameras etc is very appealing.
