Apple tries to downplay iPhone 5 scratches

Over the weekend it was revealed that Apple's latest iPhone is rather prone to scratches and scuffs. The anodised aluminium rear casing of the iPhone 5 was found to be easily scratched or scuffed by keys, a probable everyday occurance. Some early adopters even found that scuffs arrived out of the box.

One unhappy customer sent an email to Apple’s Senior VP of Worldwide Marketing Phil Schiller and got a reply: “Any aluminum product may scratch or chip with use, exposing its natural silver color. That is normal.”

Obviously Apple's message here is to deal with a phone that aesthetically degrades over time. The other option would be to buy a case, but for many that adds pointless bulk and detracts from the natural design of any device.

KitGuru says: Now we have to wonder how a silver backed iPhone 5 would look.
