US involved in Pirate Bay founder arrest?

Considering it took place in Cambodia, based off of a Swedish search warrant, it would be surprising if US authorities had anything to do with the arrest of Pirate Bay founder, Gottfrid Svartholm. However one visitor to the country on a particular day, throws up a few red flags.

Ron Kirk, a United States trade representative and Obama's lead neogiator for trade, touched down in Cambodia on exactly the same day that Mr Svartholm was detained. This is far from a solid link, but it's an intriguing one. With our conspiracy theory hats on, it doesn't come as much of a surprise to learn that after the meeting between Mr Kirk and Cambodian authorities, the US announced it was looking into building a bilateral investment treaty with Cambodia.

If there was some involvement, it wouldn't be the first time the US had weighed in on international piracy cases. Just look at the raid on Kim Dotcom's property. The Megaupload owner has also repeatedly made claims that very high ranking members of the US government have been involved in his detention, including Joe Biden.

KitGuru Says: Government links with media organisations like the MPAA and RIAA have been well known about for some time. There have been hints of it here too, with media moguls meeting with MPs on yachts, who announce piracy crack downs soon after. None of it is concrete evidence, but it doesn't take much of a stretch of the imagination to take a wild guess at what's going on.

  1. Yes, it’s just like the Kim Dotcom case where the US secretly had him arrested through a 3rd party government. Oh, wait. No they didn’t do anything secret or 3rd party at all. It was right out in the open. So, actually no, it’s not the same. Why don’t you do something useful with your tin foil instead of fashioning hats out of it?

  2. Maybe they could create a tinfoil cup and pour some ice cold water into it. Might cool you down..
