While the franchise definitely doesn’t have as much cache as it did at one point, the Borderlands series is still well liked by millions of fans. With the sour taste of the ill-fated film (hopefully) out of most people’s mouths by now, Gearbox is set to officially show off the previously-announced Borderlands 4 during the upcoming Game Awards.
Taking to twitter to tease fans, the team at Gearbox shared the following announcement: “Prepare yourselves! We’re about to crank things up to the next fucking level at [The Game Awards]. Who's ready to get their first look at the most ambitious Borderlands yet?!”
As mentioned, the most recent Borderlands project was the critically and commercially panned ‘movie’ which released in cinemas back in August to become the lowest-rated video game film of all time (with just 10% on Rotten Tomatoes) – in addition to grossing just $32 million on a roughly $140-150 million budget.
Given just how monumentally the film failed, it makes sense that Gearbox and co. would want to make fans forget and move on to the next proper Borderlands project as soon as possible. Hopefully we get actual gameplay at the Game Awards showing and not just a story trailer.
