Apple reportedly working with Sony to bring PSVR2 controllers to Vision Pro

While Sony’s PSVR2 headset has not necessarily received the support that fans/owners of the technology were hoping for, the company has continued to tinker with the headset – adding more functionality over time. In an interesting move, Apple and Sony are reportedly working together to bring PSVR2 controller support to the Apple Vision Pro.

As reported by Bloomberg (paywalled), the Apple Vision Pro might soon be getting a boost thanks to a partnership with Sony.

According to the report, “Apple approached Sony earlier this year, and the duo agreed to work together on launching support for the PlayStation VR2's hand controllers on the Vision Pro.”

Despite no official announcement, the joined project was reportedly meant to have been revealed by now, however logistical issues (such as the controllers not currently being available to purchase standalone) has put a spanner into the works.

For the uninitiated, Apple’s Vision Pro headset does not currently support any controllers, with owners needing to use their hands to navigate the headset. While beneficial in some scenarios, Apple reportedly wishes to enter the VR gaming space – which would necessitate such controllers.

Sony and Apple have worked together in the past in this way, with the PS5’s DualSense controllers available to purchase directly through Apple’s site. As such, this announcement is likely only a matter of time.
