“The whole slate” of Final Fantasy games reportedly coming to Xbox

Right at the start of 2024, Square Enix officially announced that the much-loved MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV would finally be coming to Xbox consoles. Following this, the publisher confirmed its intentions to bring more games to Microsoft’s platform. According to one insider “the whole slate” of Final Fantasy titles will eventually find their way onto Xbox consoles.

During the most recent episode of the Xbox Two podcast, known industry insider Jez Corden claimed that “I've heard that the whole slate's on the docket you know including Final Fantasy 7 and 16 and Pixel Remasters so like there was this – a lot of people were wondering like ‘is Sony locked down Final Fantasy 7 forever’ I've heard that is not the case and that Final Fantasy 7 will eventually come to Xbox.”

While Corden did not offer exact details on the timeline of Square Enix’s plans, it seems as though Xbox might make the announcement during their upcoming Tokyo Game Show conference, starting with the aforementioned Pixel Remasters and maybe FFXVI – with Final Fantasy VII coming later down the line.

Microsoft recently confirmed their TGS plans, revealing that “an exciting lineup of games from third-party partners primarily based in Japan and across Asia” will be showcased on Thursday, the 26th of September at 11am UK time – and so we won’t have to wait long to find out more, hopefully.
