Epic Games has been working on a first-person mode for the ever-popular Fortnite since as early as 2022, with reports of such a feature persisting for two and a half years now. Following official confirmation of such a mode earlier this year, a CSGO-inspired FPS game mode has now been announced and dated.
Making the announcement on their blog, the team at Epic Games officially unveiled their latest ‘Ballistic’ game mode coming to Fortnite, saying:
“Perspective is everything. Welcome to Ballistic, a new first-person Fortnite experience. Launching in early access on December 11 with Ranked + Unranked, Ballistic is an adrenaline-filled, round-based 5v5 competitive game mode where strategy, tactical teamwork, and individual prowess are essential for victory.”
Full details on the upcoming mode can be found HERE, but essentially it serves as Fortnite’s take on the likes of CSGO or Valorant.
It is unknown whether more arcadey modes are planned for the future, but according to Epic “Adjustments will be made beyond launch based on player feedback, in addition to major updates such as new maps, weapons, and features” – so there is a definite possibility.
We’ve seen Call of Duty encroach on Fortnite’s space with optional 3rd person modes in its recent entries, and so perhaps it is fitting for Fortnite to now be trying out an FPS mode. It will be interesting to see how the gunplay feels.
