Here are the best games of 2024 as chosen by Steam gamers

Each year, Valve holds the Steam Awards, inviting millions of PC gamers to vote on their favourite titles from the previous 12 months. After several weeks of voting, the results are now in. 

Steam users ultimately voted for Black Myth Wukong to win the GOTY award this year. Considering the game's immense popularity on Steam at launch, and continued popularity amongst PC gamers in particular, this isn't too surprising, but there was some tough competition. Other finalists in consideration for GOTY during the Steam Awards were Balatro, Stalker 2, Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 and Helldivers 2.

As Valve is one of the few pillars of the games industry that still actively pushes VR, the second biggest award of the year is of course, VR Game of the Year. Honestly, 2024 was a very good year for VR, with Blade & Sorcery leaving early access, and two major AAA games dropping back to back, starting with Batman: Arkham Shadow and followed by Metro Awakening. Ultimately, Steam VR gamers voted Metro Awakening as their top VR game of the year.

KitGuru Says: What games did you vote for in The Steam Awards this year? For me, my picks lost in most of their categories. Seeing God of War Ragnarok win Best on Steam Deck and Black Myth Wukong win Outstanding Story Game were the biggest surprises to me.
