Path of Exile 2 has been highly anticipated for a good half a decade now, with the free-to-play Action-RPG finally arriving in Early Access just last weekend. Despite charging for said early access to the game, PoE 2 has more than doubled the peak concurrent player count of its first entry on Steam.
With a peak concurrent Steam count of 578,569 players, Path of Exile 2 has more than doubled the record set by the first entry (which is free-to-play) of 229,337 players.
As mentioned, while PoE 2 will go free-to-play upon its official 1.0 release, Early Access players have to shell out just shy of £24 to play the game ahead of time – something which millions of fans seem more than willing to do.
Though not an apples-to-apples comparison, Blizzard’s isometric action-RPG Diablo IV saw a peak concurrent player count of just 10% of PoE 2 with 55,561 CCU; showcasing just how popular the Early Access launch of Path of Exile 2 has been.
While we don’t have up-to-date figures yet, the team at Grinding Gear Games did confirm that PoE 2 passed 1 million copies sold before the EA period had even properly launched – and so the next sales update is likely to be impressively huge.
