Game Pass is the big unique selling point for Xbox, with the service offering a boatload of both first and 3rd party titles for a relatively cheap (though increasingly less so) monthly price. In an effort to add “even more value” Game Pass is set to get new in-game benefits for select free-to-play games.
Making the announcement on the Xbox Wire Blog, Xbox’s Product Marketing Manager – Steve Masline – wrote: “Starting this week, we’re rolling out even more value to Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass members with in-game benefits for free-to-play games. Members will get items like cosmetics, characters, in-game currency, and more for additional games.”
Between now and April, a decent selection of titles will be supported, with even more said to be added over time. So far, the list is as follows:
- Heroes of the Storm – unlock 30 heroes
- Naraka: Bladepoint – unlock all heroes and a couple cosmetics
- Smite 2 – unlock 5 gods and a could cosmetics
- The Finals – Stryker Grid Set, match XP boost and in-game currency
- Asphalt Legends Unite
- Call of Duty: Warzone
- Enlisted
- War Thunder
Other contemporary services such as PlayStation Plus offer similar benefits and so it’s nothing necessarily new. Still, it is nice to see more ‘value’ being given to Game Pass subscribers.
It’ll be interesting to see what the Call of Duty benefits wind up being – given that Activision is owned by Microsoft. We’ll have to wait and see.
