Former 343i dev reveals why Halo 5 never came to PC

Just as how the legacy of Halo stretches back to the roots of the OG Xbox, Master Chief and co. had – in the early days – a strong presence on PC. Unfortunately, 2015’s Halo 5 never came to the platform, and we now know why.

In celebrating the 9 year anniversary of Halo 5: Guardians, former Halo dev Tyler Owens responded to one fan on Twitter who expressed their desires to see Halo 5 come to PC, saying:

“I wish but it’s never going to happen imo. I think the port that was being considered ran into significant tech hurdles and was scrapped.”

Halo 5 PC

Given the many technical/engine issues which 343i has suffered from over Halo’s recent entries, it does make sense that the team would move on from Halo 5. Especially in the wake of their move to Unreal Engine 5, it seems unlikely that Halo Studios will be returning to 2015's entry any time soon.

With all other Halo titles available on PC, the lack of Guardians remains an unfortunate omission. Hopefully it gets ported eventually – even if it's in 10 years' time.

KitGuru says: What did you think of ‘Guardians' at the time? What about now? Could the game possibly come to PC eventually? Let us know down below.
