AMD's Ryzen 9 9800X3D has become a hot commodity, but its scarcity has frustrated many gamers. Major merchants have sold out of the popular CPU, leaving prospective customers to worry about when they can get one. Thankfully, it appears that this CPU's stock will improve in the upcoming quarter.
The 9800X3D's impressive gaming performance convinced many gamers to buy it as soon as it was released. CPUs flew off the shelves upon its release, with most retailers not having any Ryzen 7 9800X3Ds in stock and no indication of when they expect to replenish their inventory. Even pre-orders are unavailable at this time.
AMD responded to Paul Alcorn's request for an update on the issue by saying it is “working diligently to get as much supply to market as soon as possible”. AMD claims that availability should increase in the upcoming quarter and that additional CPUs are being sent every week. For now, gamers may find locating the 9800X3D in physical stores or smaller retailers easier.
There are some possible reasons for the lack of stock of this CPU. AMD may be having difficulty meeting demand due to the 9800X3D's unexpected success. AMD is also preparing to release its new B850 and B840 motherboards and its 12-core and 16-core 9000X3D CPUs in late January. This can divert resources and, therefore, affect the 9800X3D's availability even more.
