ASUS announces some more Transformer Android tablets

Revealed alongside the Padfone last night were a couple of new Transformer series tablets. The tablets in question are the Transformer Pad Infinity 700 series and the Transformer Pad 300 series.

Starting off with the Asus Transformer Pad Infinity 700 series (buzz-word galore) there is a really impressive 1920×1200 Full HD Super IPS+ display complete with Gorilla Glass 2. The 10.1 inch tablet will be powered by either a Nvidia Tegra 3 SoC or a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core chipset; depending if you opt for the LTE version or not.

Much of the rest of the tablet is standard for a high-end tablet with a 8 MP rear camera, 2 MP video-calling camera, 1 GB of RAM and either 16, 32 or 64 GB of on-board storage. Strangely only the Wi-Fi version will have the Tegra 3 chipset, if you want 3G or 4G connectivity you will have to live with the Snapdragon “Krait” chipset.

The Infinity 700 series tablets will have an RF window which allows a GPS and Wi-Fi performance increase, something the Transformer Prime TF201 didn't have and was publicly abused for as a result.

Also announced today is the Transformer Pad 300 series, a lower-end offering destined to target some of Acer's Iconia tablets. These “stylish and affordable” Androids will be displayed in either blue, white or red. It will be powered by a Tegra 3 chipset just like the Wi-Fi only version of the Infinity 700 series. There will be 16 GB of on-board storage (it is not clear if there will be SKUs offering more storage) and 1 GB of RAM.

Both tablets will launch with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich within the next few months.
