Android 4.1 Jelly Bean source code is now available

Following the announcement of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean late last month the source code has today been released to the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). The specific build is Android 4.1.1_r1 and any improvements or fixes made since the build shown at Google I/O are unknown.

This essentially means that development of software can begin for current devices and ones still in the baking process in Android OEMs' development labs. While Jelly Bean updates for devices (other than the Nexus lineup) won't start to roll out until at least September, the early adopters among us will no doubt flash custom ROMs onto their device. These custom ROMs based on the Android 4.1 source code will more than likely start to appear for popular devices by the weekend.

KitGuru says: While I'm not overly enthusiastic about the way Google handles new Android versions, it is getting better.
