Asus’ GPS fix for the Transformer Prime is hardly beautiful

Ever since Asus launched its Transformer Prime tablet back in December, users (including yours truly,) have experienced very noticeable GPS problems. Well, it turns out that beautiful aluminum shell does a pretty good job of blocking high frequency radio waves such as GPS signals. Last week it was revealed that a GPS solution for the Asus Transformer Prime was on its way and today you are now able to register for your free GPS dongle.

While the free part of the rumour was upheld, we were also told it was “minimalist” in design by an anonymous XDA user; sadly this isn't the case. The GPS dongle Asus will be supplying looks more like a growth, but it does come in the colour of your Prime. The only real catch is that it plugs into the proprietary connector on the tablet, ruling out the use of the keyboard dock.

If you have the first Tegra 3  powered tablet then you must apply for your free dongle before the end of July. However those wanting a more permanent solution will have to wait for the Asus Transformer Pad Infinity due for release later this year.

KitGuru says: While it may not be the most elegant of solutions it does beat the “you're holding it wrong” solution another company has attempted previously.
