Samsung announces Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A3 super slim smartphones

Samsung has been a leader in the Android smartphone market for a few years now and today it has announced its “slimmest smartphones to date”, the Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A3. Both devices do away with the traditional plastic build that Samsung is known for, they also come in at 6.7mm and 6.9mm thick respectively.

As you could probably figure out, the Galaxy A5 is the more powerful of the two, packing in a 5 inch screen, a 1.2 GHz quad core CPU, 2GB of RAM and a 15 mega pixel camera on the back. The specifications aren't actually far off what can be found in the Galaxy S3, the phone that shot Samsung to the top of the Android market.

The Galaxy A3 sports a smaller screen, coming in at 4.5 Inches, it uses the same CPU as the A5 but scales down to just 1Gb of RAM, it also has an eight mega pixel camera on the back. Both devices will run Android 4.4 KitKat as Google's latest OS, Android Lollipop, isn't due out for another few weeks when the Nexus 6 launches. There will also be a micro SD card slot for expandable memory, despite the metal build.

The new smartphones will launch in “select markets”, which includes China. Exact pricing has yet to be announced.

KitGuru Says: Samsung's new budget devices closely resemble the Galaxy S3 spec-wise. The new all metal build is a nice change of pace from the plastic we are used to seeing on Samsung devices. What do you guys think of Samsung's latest offerings?
