Fix your Xbox One Bruce Lee style

Since I first learned to build and take apart my own PC, my confidence in my abilities and my technical know how has gradually increased over time. I'm not daunted by the idea of opening up an electronic product and having a look to see what's wrong – whether I know what I'm doing or not. However there's still part of me that loves a traditional macho way of fixing things and that's why this latest fix for the Xbox One's dodgy disc drive problem is one I can really get behind.

Yes, punching your £430 console can actually make quite a difference. To do so you need to unplug all cabling, flip it over, place your fist – thumb out, noobs – over the blu-ray player and give it a few hard strikes. Supposedly this re-aligns the dodgy gear that is causing the majority of the grinding noise and preventing the disc from spinning up correctly.

Think the method is BS? This guy's got video evidence of it working: [yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDoDqTaIwIc#t=148′]

What's great about this, beyond the fact that you literally get to punch an Xbox, is that it doesn't require opening up the machine at all, which means your warranty stays intact. This then makes it possible to continue with your return and replace if it doesn't work.

It doesn't work for everyone of course, but for those it does, it's perfect.

“Ha, you call that a punch? Nyaaaaaa”

KitGuru Says: Any KG readers got an Xbox One with this particular problem? Maybe if you're scared you could let a Sony fanboy do it and kill two birds with one stone? [Cheers Kotaku]
