Gigabyte introduces Aorus Gen4 7300 SSD, read speeds up to 7.3GB/s

Although the era of PCIe 5.0 SSDs is now upon us, Gen4 drives are not going anywhere just yet. Take Gigabyte, for example, who has just revealed the Aorus Gen4 7300 SSD, an enhanced PCIe 4.0 SSD with read performance of up to 7300MB/s.

Powering the SSD, we find a Phison E18 8-channel controller that offers customers a high random access rate and high-speed 3D-TLC NAND Flash and SLC cache design capable of saturating the PCIe 4.0 standard. Offering read speeds of up to 7300MB/s and write speeds of up to 6850MB/s in real-world testing, that's about 13 times faster than a SATA III SSD.

Under full load, PCIe 4.0 SSDs can generate a fair bit of heat, which will cause throttling if not cooled properly. To avoid that situation, Gigabyte has included a unique full-coverage heatsink that allows users to choose the built-in aluminium heatsink on their motherboards or the included heatsink. This design also allows for more versatile thermal configurations for PCs and PS5 consoles.

The Aorus 7300 Gen SSD will be available with 2TB and 1TB storage options and support SMART, TRIM, and AES-256 encryption. To monitor the SSD, customers can utilize Gigabyte's proprietary GCC (Gigabyte Control Center) software management platform for a rapid status overview or modify specific drive settings.

KitGuru says: If you're already sitting on a PCIe 4.0 SSD, the new Aorus Gen4 7300 might not be worth considering. However, those using a SATA or a PCIe 3.0 SSD would notice a considerable performance bump, given they have a platform that supports PCIe 4.0 storage.
