Macbook Air ‘flickering’ screen problems – quality issues?

Apple recently released the sexy new Macbook Air machines, however it appears that they may be dealing with some potential screen issues.

The redesigned Macbook Air was introduced two weeks ago and has already been the subject of numerous complaints on Apple's support forum. The screen ‘flickers' for some users and videos have even made their way onto YouTube.

DanRyb posted to Apple's forums and said “Every so often while using it, the screen has a ton of weird colors in vertical lines … and the entire laptop has frozen, I have to force it off with the power button and reboot it. It happens at random times.”

BGR, a tech news blog have said that Apple have already acknowledged the problem internally – the site has posted an image of the documented Apple support problems. It lists two issues – displays fading upon waking from sleep and the flickering problems.

There are listed reports of users having received replacements from Apple stores due to the flickering screen issues.

This is the latest in a list of Apple quality issues, with the most prominent being the iPhone 4 antenna problems experienced by many Apple customers. Apple were forced to release public letters stating that the problem was a matter of perception rather than a flaw in the design. The company said that the apparent poor signal strength was the result of a software error that showed a weaker signal than was actually available – they did however offer free bumper cases to keep customers happy.

KitGuru says: If this MacBook air problem becomes widespread it will certainly not help Apple to instill confidence with their customer base.

  1. This is a problem Apple seem to be facing more regularly in recent years. it will bite them on the ass if they keep it up.

  2. “Apples never crash”. Sure they don’t.
    Well done Apple. Another FAIL

  3. Hahahaha I knew their would be problems with the new airs but I was expecting more screen cracking or shattering…. not flickering but I knew their would be problems

  4. half arsed – rushed release, simple. but i dont think cheaper price is the whole truth…

I suspect after the entire success with Ipad and Iphone Apple obviously know that they have reached an audience far wider and diverse than before, so they release new macs at a good price for once in the hopes for some apple trend from consumers to spill over into another platform.

Backfired? Depends on how many airs are doing this…
